Obituary of John Edward Trommelen

John Edward Trommelen, Sr., age 83, of Totowa passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019. Mr. Trommelen was born in Prospect Park, the son of Marinus and Mary (Scialla) Trommelen. He lived most of his life in Paterson, moving to Totowa 24 years ago and was the owner and operator of John's Quality Auto Parts in Paterson for 40 years before retiring. Mr. Trommelen was a parishioner of St. Bonaventure RC Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Paterson Council 240, a Fourth degree Knight, Grand Knight and the District Deputy. Mr. Trommelen was an advocate for organ transplants and the Sharing Network, and a member of the Society of Hearty Hearts while volunteering at Newark Beth Israel Hospital. Mr. Trommelen was the beloved husband of 63 years of Regina "Jean" (Higgins); loving father of Mary Jane and her husband George Kane, Lisa, Thomas and his wife Joann, Michael and his wife Donna, and daughter-in-law Maryann; devoted grandfather of grandsons John, III and his wife Stacy, Brian, Joseph, Patrick, Dan, Kevin, Thomas, and Michael, granddaughters Alyssa and her husband Bryan, Caitlin, Nicole and Meagan, and great-grandson John, IV. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son John, Jr., and his sister Lorraine Van Loke. Friends are welcome to attend the visiting hours on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral will be at 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 10:15 a.m. at St. Bonaventure R.C. Church.
